Now Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards 2019

Thank you Toronto for voting Tabule “Best Middle Eastern” and “Best Falafel” in Now Magazine’s Readers Choice Awards for 2019! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Best Middle Eastern

“Great Middle Eastern food is by no means in short supply in Toronto, but no one does it quite like Tabue. Chef Rony Goraichy’s group of eateries puts major flavour into Lebanese classics, and the sophisticated atmosphere sets them apart. Bring the magic home with takeout, or try Tabule’s take on brunch at sister spot Souk Tabule.”

Best Falaffel

“Falafels dry, crumbly and bland? Not so at Tabule’s kitchens (in Leslieville, Midtown and Bayview Village, plus spin-off Souk Tabule in the Canary District), where chef Rony Goraichy makes magic out of humble chickpeas and favas. Get ‘em as an app or a main (accompanied by grilled veggies and brown lentils with rice).”

The 20 Best Reasons to Brunch in Toronto | Toronto Life

When one of the best Middle Eastern restaurants in Toronto opened a sleek counter-service spinoff in the then–mostly vacant Canary District, the arrival went largely unnoticed. Two years later, there’s much more activity in the neighbourhood, and the secret’s out about Souk Tabule’s all-day shakshuka.

The 100 best cheap eats in Toronto

Souk Tabüle’s Phoenician fries

They’re listed under “sides” at this sleek, casual Canary District restaurant, but eating fries as a main course is, of course, a Canadian national pastime. Consider this a Middle Eastern riff on poutine: a deep bowl of golden, freshly fried spuds dusted with a generous layer of za’atar, and artfully drizzled with tangy tahini and fresh herbs.

15 New Restaurants to Check Out in March

The Canary District’s new counter-service outpost of the Tabülè chain isn’t just serving streamlined versions of sit-down food. Everything arrives quickly— on real plates—and no shortcuts are taken. Entrées are priced for one, sized for two: the turmeric-tinged Beirut pulled chicken is exceptionally moist and lean, served over seasoned rice. It’s stiff competition for the punchy beef shawarma or falafel platters. And for those who want a satisfying skillet of roasted tomatoes, peppers and eggs for dinner, there’s all-day shakshuka. A side order of crispy Phoenician fries, blasted with za’atar and showered in tahini, is always a good idea.

Souk Tabule – Ry’s Ratings

Souk Tabule is related to the other Tabule restaurants around Toronto, but offers a very different format in dining. Souk means “market” in Arabic, and that’s the feel they are trying to give to us through their “fast-casual” restaurant experience.

Their Middle Eastern food is healthy and nutritious, allergy-friendly and can easily serve those who eat vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free. You can easily pick up or eat in with small groups or very large ones.

MIDDLE EASTERN BRUNCH AT SOUK TABULE

The Toronto food scene is so abundant, and each month, there seems to be another new place popping up. With so many great restaurants in the city, I think in order to attract (and keep) customers, restaurant owners have to put thought not only into their food, but also into their interior design. Now don’t get me wrong, beautiful décor could never make up for bad food. But, since we are so spoiled for choice in Toronto, we now expect a restaurant to hit all the marks, if it’s going to impress us. We are millennials after all – demanding, aesthetically-driven, Instagram-obsessed, millennials! The owners of Tabülè Middle Eastern Cuisine must understand this concept very well. Tabule is one of my favourite places for Middle Eastern food in the city. So, when I saw pictures of the gorgeous interior of Souk Tabule on Instagram, I knew I needed to get over there STAT. ~ Dine and Fash
